About

My name is Dean Purcell and i’m a fulltime staff photographer at New Zealand’s national daily newspaper The New Zealand Herald. I have  15-years experience as a press photographer in New Zealand, covering everything from the 50th anniversary of the Korean war in South Korea, travel assignments through Australasia, drug busts in the Pacific and a wide-variety of breaking news in New Zealand, including the devastating Christchurch earthquake and the Rugby World Cup 2011.

I’ve created ‘The Shit I Shoot’ to showcase my personal projects, favourite pictures and a selection of previously unpublished shots.

Enjoy.

    Hi Dean,
Do you send out photos of pics you have taken that are published in the paper. I am after one that you have taken of my daughter during Waitangi.

  3. Hi Dean.
Just spotted your portrait of Zorawar Singh in the Herald this morning and thought “finally, a decent portrait instead of the usual crap!”.
Mind me asking, did you use something around 135mm at f6.3?

    Very nice image Dean.
